The three hundred hectare De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate is nestled in the foothills of the majestic Stellenbosch Mountains neighbouring the Spier Wine Estate. In consultation with award-winning local architect, Dennis Moss, a development framework was evolved to create a series of small residential villages each with its own individual character - and smallholdings, built amongst the greens of the Spier Golf Course and the working vineyards of three of Stellenboschs oldest wine farms, Kleine Zalze, Die Vleie and Grootte Zalze.

The architectural philosophy behind the overall layout of the development and the detailed design guidelines on individual structures is to create a unique village atmosphere. Thus the golf alleyway layout typical of so many golf estates is avoided by carefully planning the houses in compact clusters with large open spaces between each village.

De Zalze residents will live amongst the fairways and greens of an international standard golf course, created by leading designer, Peter Matkovich. The entire estate is enclosed by electrified perimeter fencing with the two access points protected by 24-hour security presence.

Telephonic communication between the gatehouse and each resident will further ensure that residents can enjoy complete security and peace of mind.

The De Zalze Golf Course situated within the De Zalze Winelands Golf Estate was designed by Peter Matkovich (course architect for Leopard Rock, Arabella & Pinnacle Point amongst others) who made the most of the stunning setting and created a course that places a premium on accuracy.

The course has an excellent mix of parkland holes with its main challenges presented in the form of the water features on several holes, as well as the Oak tree lined Blaauwklippen River which winds its way through the Golf Estate and comes into play at various intervals.
